An older refrigerator

If the oven has stopped holding temperature, the refrigerator is running constantly without getting cold, or the washer fills and then just sits there, you are on the right page.

Post Falls is the nearest of the four Idaho cities with a page here, about half an hour out from the South Hill, and it is charged at the same rate as anywhere else. In his own words, the rate is the same here as in Spokane, on a service call and on the repair that follows.

SD Appliance is Sergei Dergunov, working out of the South Hill since 2020 and repairing appliances since 2013. Call (509) 866-6767.

A city built almost entirely since 2000

Post Falls has the highest share of post-2000 housing of the four Idaho cities. The median home here was built in 2005; 63 percent of everything standing was built after 2000; only about 16 percent predates 1980; and pre-war housing barely exists, at under 2 percent.

It has also grown by 21 percent since the 2020 census, from 38,485 people to an estimated 46,715, the largest number any of the four has added.

The consequence for appliance work is that most machines in this city are still young enough that the repair-or-replace question has an easy answer. A unit under fifteen years old with one failed component is almost always worth the part, because nothing else on it has started to go. That stops being true on the second major failure, and knowing which of the two you are looking at is the point of the visit.

What tends to fail here differs from what fails in older housing. On a machine built since 2000, it is usually a control board, a sensor, a valve, or a pump rather than anything worn out mechanically, so confirming exactly which component has gone is most of the work, and the part is often the cheaper half.

Almost two-thirds of homes here are owner-occupied, and household income sits essentially level with the Kootenai County figure. On most calls, the person standing next to the appliance owns it and is paying for the repair, which means the only question that actually matters is whether the repair is worth the money, and it gets answered before the money is spent.

A mill town that became a commuter city

Post Falls was founded in 1871 and incorporated in 1891, named after Frederick Post, a German immigrant who built a lumber mill on the Spokane River on land obtained from Andrew Seltice, chief of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, in an agreement recorded at what is now Treaty Rock Park. Buck Knives moved its headquarters here in 2005 and employs more than 300 people.

What the city is now, though, is a commuter town rather than a destination. Barely 1 percent of housing here sits vacant for seasonal use, compared with nearly 4 percent in Coeur d’Alene, so this is not a second-home market, and the appliances are in daily use by their owners.

Pleasant ViewDowntown DistrictPost Falls Technology District

One naming note, because people give it as an address in its own right: Pleasant View is covered here, whether you mean the urban renewal district inside the city or the area immediately west of it. It does not need a page of its own. The Downtown District and the Post Falls Technology District are the other two the city has adopted.

There is no zone pricing inside Post Falls and no part of the city is treated differently from any other.

The shortest of the four Idaho runs

About 24 miles from the South Hill and somewhere around half an hour, straight out I-90 to Exit 5.

Priced identically

It is priced identically to everywhere else: no distance surcharge, no minimum job size, and no separate Idaho rate.

Scheduling, not price

What the drive changes is scheduling, not price. Post Falls is the first stop on the Idaho run rather than the far end of it, which helps, but whether today is realistic still depends on the hour you call and where the day has got to. You get that answer straight on the phone.

Same run, same terms

State Line, Hauser and the western edge of Kootenai County are separate places on the same run and are covered on the same terms.

What is not repaired, anywhere on the map

The list above is the whole of it. What falls outside is worth stating plainly, because it saves a phone call.

01

Repairs only, in your home

Repairs only, and always in the home the appliance already sits in. Appliances are not installed, a new unit is not fitted into cabinetry, and nothing is reconnected after a kitchen change. In a city where most kitchens went in with the house, that last one comes up: a remodel needs an installer, not a repair van. The one exception anywhere on the site is a like-for-like garbage disposal swap.

02

Residential only

Residential only. In his words, no commercial at all. Houses, condos and rental properties are all residential work, whoever owns them. Commercial kitchens, restaurants and commercial refrigeration are not taken on, and neither is anything in the Technology District that is not somebody's home.

03

No shop, no drop-off, no factory authorization

There is no shop and no drop-off, so nothing gets carried anywhere. There is also no factory authorization here, which means manufacturer-warranty repairs are not performed. If your appliance is still under its manufacturer’s warranty, you will be told to use that coverage rather than being sold a repair you could have had for free.

What people say about the work

Every review below is a real Google review, unedited. They come from across the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene service area, Idaho included.

Booking a visit in Post Falls

1

The call comes to Sergei rather than a booking service. There is no call center and no dispatcher, so you are talking to the person who will do the work. On the newer machines that fill this city the model number is worth finding before you call: with the brand, the model and an accurate description of what it is doing, he can often name the likely part before he leaves.

2

Common parts ride on the van. Anything less common is ordered in, and nothing gets ordered without your approval of the part and the price. Local counter stock for appliance parts is thin, so anything less common comes from out of town and takes a few business days.

3

The same person diagnoses it, prices it and does the work, on the first visit and again on the return visit if a part has to be ordered.

What the visit costs

A control board being handled with a tool
Service call
$89applied to the repair

The same $89 across the state line as ten minutes from the shop. It covers travel, inspection and diagnostic time, goes toward the repair if you go ahead, and stands on its own if you decide not to.

Flat, upfront pricing

Once the fault is known, you get a flat price for the repair before any work starts. The price quoted is the price paid. It does not go up because the job took longer than expected or because the part was harder to reach than it looked.

30 to 90 day warranty

Parts and labor are warranted for 30 to 90 days as stated on your invoice. The full terms, exclusions included, are on the warranty page.

No weekend or holiday premium

There is no weekend or holiday premium. A Saturday, a Sunday or a holiday is billed like a weekday.

Financing & military discount

Zero-interest financing through Wisetack is available on repairs over $500 for eligible customers, and active-duty service members and veterans get 15% off labor. Terms are on the financing page.

Questions people in Post Falls ask

No. Idaho is charged at the same rate as anywhere else, with no distance surcharge and no minimum job size.

Yes, at the same rate, and that holds whichever Pleasant View you mean. It is covered on this page rather than separately.

Usually repair on a first significant fault, because a builder package that age is generally sound apart from the one part that failed. What changes the answer is a second major failure on the same machine. There is more on the repair or replace page.

Yes. On a machine built since 2000, the fault is more often a board, a sensor, or a valve than anything mechanical, and confirming which one it is on site is most of the work.

Yes. Work orders, tenant coordination and pre-authorization are all normal. There is more on the property management page.

Yes, at the same rate. A Saturday, a Sunday, or a holiday is billed like a weekday.

Check the warranty first. There is no factory authorization here, so if the coverage is live, you are better off using it, and you will be told that rather than being sold a repair you could have had free.
