One call, a real person

When your refrigerator stops cooling, your dryer runs without heat, or your dishwasher starts leaking onto the kitchen floor, you want one thing: someone who knows what he is looking at and will tell you the truth about it. SD Appliance is Sergei Dergunov. He has been repairing appliances since 2013, incorporated SD Appliance in Spokane in August 2020, and works out of the South Hill, out to Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Cheney, Mead, Colbert, Airway Heights, and across the state line into North Idaho.

Call, and you get Sergei, not a call center, a dispatcher, or a salesperson working on commission. He asks what the machine is doing, works out what is most likely wrong before he leaves, and carries common parts in the van so many repairs are done on the first visit. Prices are set; they are explained before anything is opened up, and the quote you agree to is the price you pay.

Whatever has broken, one call gets you a real person who repairs appliances for a living. He will tell you what is wrong, what it costs, and whether the repair is worth doing at all.

Meet Sergei

Meet Sergei

Sergei started in construction at eighteen and spent several years as an electrician in Los Angeles, working on residential and commercial new construction, rewiring, and troubleshooting. A friend in the appliance trade showed him how often a machine headed for the curb could be fixed instead, and that was the end of the electrical career. He has been repairing appliances since 2013, moved to Spokane to raise a family and build something local, and started SD Appliance in August 2020 with a van and a set of tools.

That background matters more now than it used to. Modern machines fail at control boards, relays, and sensors as well as at belts and pumps, and reading a circuit is a different skill from swapping a part.

What happens when you call

01

You talk to Sergei, not a call center

The phone goes to the person who will be standing in your kitchen. He listens to what the appliance is doing, asks questions that narrow it down, and honestly tells you how soon he can get there.

02

He works out what is likely wrong before he leaves

Give him the brand, the model number if you have it, and what the machine is actually doing, and he can usually predict the failed part. That matters more than it sounds: it is the difference between arriving with the part on the van and finishing today, or diagnosing today and coming back later. If the repair can wait a day, scheduling it usually means one visit instead of two.

03

Diagnosis, then a price, before anything gets opened up

The service call is $89 and covers travel, inspection, and diagnostic time. It goes toward the repair if you go ahead, and it stands on its own if you decide not to. You get the price before the work starts, and if something unexpected turns up once the panel is off, he stops and explains it rather than adding it to the bill.

04

The repair, and what happens if a part has to come in

Common parts ride on the van. When a part has to be ordered, you get the part and the price before it is ordered, not after. Original manufacturer parts come first; if a part has been discontinued, you are told before anything else goes in. Parts and labor are warranted for 30 to 90 days as stated on your invoice.

“
G A dishwasher, with the part collected on the way over

“I googled SD appliance repair left a message and within 15 minutes I got a call back. Sergei showed up approximately 45 minutes after our initial contact. On his way to my location, he stopped by the parts store and picked up the parts that I needed for my dishwasher. He was in and out of my house within 30 minutes. […] I certainly thank Sergei for his quick response and being able to attend to my issues on the same day of the call.”

What we repair

Kitchen and laundry appliances for homeowners and landlords across the Spokane area. Refrigerators and dryers are the two calls that come in most, but the van is set up for all of it.

Refrigerator Repair

Not cooling, warm at the top, leaking, noisy, or the ice and water have stopped. Defrost systems, evaporator and condenser fans, control boards, door seals.

Freezer Repair

Upright, chest and built-in. Frost building up, running constantly, or not holding temperature with a season of meat inside.

Ice Maker Repair

The ice maker inside a refrigerator or freezer, including dispensers built into the door. Inlet valves, frozen fill tubes, water lines.

Wine & Beverage Cooler Repair

Built-in and under-counter wine and beverage coolers, and wine cellar cooling units. Straight advice on when a small unit is not worth repairing.

Washer Repair

Will not drain, will not spin, leaking, or walking across the floor. Drain pumps, door gaskets, control boards, front load and top load.

Dryer Repair

Running but not drying, taking three cycles, squealing, or not starting. Heating elements, rollers, timers, and the vent nobody thinks to check.

Dishwasher Repair

Not draining, not cleaning, leaking, or refusing to start. Circulation and drain pumps, spray arms, door latches, inlet valves.

Oven Repair

Wall ovens, double ovens and built-ins, gas and electric. Igniters, elements, sensors, control boards, and ovens that run hot or cold.

Range, Stove & Cooktop Repair

Gas, electric, and induction. One burner dead, an igniter clicking forever, or the whole unit gone. Range hoods have their own page.

Range Hood Repair

The fan above the stove. Fan motors first, then switches and lights, plus hoods that run but pull nothing.

Microwave Repair

Built-in, over-the-range and drawer units, where the cost of installing a replacement is what makes repair worth it. Countertop units are not turned away. Magnetrons, microswitches, keypads.

Garbage Disposal Replacement

Like-for-like replacement of a failed disposal. New installs and plumbing changes go to a plumber.

Trash Compactor Repair

Drive gears, side rails, and door switches. Still repaired here, when most people assume nobody does.

High-End and Built-In Appliances

Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Dacor, Bosch and Miele. Heavier units, tighter spaces, more expensive parts, and floors worth protecting when the range comes out.

Rentals and Property Managers

Work orders, pre-authorization limits, tenant scheduling, and a receipt for your records. One flat rate, the same whether you own one rental or twenty.

Why people keep calling back

Tech with a meter inside an oven during a Spokane appliance repair by SD Appliance
Call and talk to Sergei
The owner, on every job

The owner does the repair

SD Appliance is deliberately small. Sergei takes the call, asks the questions, does the diagnosis and does the repair, and his name is on the business because he stands behind the work. When the schedule gets genuinely full, he has a part-time repairman who can help cover, so people are not left waiting a week.

Set prices, and nobody working on commission

Nobody at SD Appliance earns more by quoting you a bigger repair, because Sergei owns the business, does the diagnosis, and does not work on commission. The price comes from the failed part, the labor, and the time, and it is quoted before the job starts. He would rather be honest with you than sell you a repair you do not need.

“
G
A built-in that would have been expensive to replace

“[T]his time the built-in microwave/convection oven that would be expensive to replace. Sergei arrived with the appropriate part (2 options) within a day of calling him. Fortunately, it required the least costly of the two parts and he was finished in 30 minutes. Microwave works like new!! […] Professional, knowledgeable, friendly, prompt, upfront with costs.”

A straight answer on whether it is worth fixing

In his experience, roughly 8 out of 10 times, depending on what has failed, a refrigerator that has stopped cooling is a reasonable repair rather than a replacement. Sometimes it is not, and you will be told that too. If a fifteen-year-old washer needs bearings, the repair costs about as much as a new machine, and the honest answer is to put the money toward the new one.

Repair or replace? Read the honest version

Open seven days, and no premium for it

Monday through Sunday, and a Saturday or a holiday is billed at the same rate as a weekday. Appliances do not wait for the working week, and the price does not change because yours broke on one.

“
G
Another company said replace it. It did not need replacing.

“We originally hired a different company to come out and fix our dishwasher but after 3 parts and several visits they said we needed a new dishwasher. We called SD Appliance and Sergei came out quickly and diagnosed the problem immediately. He order[ed] the part and fixed it perfectly. Then we had our double ovens go out, and he again diagnosed the problem quickly and made the necessary fix.”

An electrician's read on a modern machine

Replacing parts without finding the actual fault gets expensive quickly, and on a modern machine the fault is as likely to be electronic as mechanical. Several years wiring and troubleshooting buildings before he ever opened an appliance is why the diagnosis comes first, and the parts order comes second.

Common questions

The service call is $89. It covers travel, inspection, and diagnostic time, and it goes toward the repair if you decide to go ahead. If you decide not to, the service call stands on its own. If the fix turns out to be trivial and does not require taking the appliance apart, you are not charged extra.

Often, if you call early enough, you can get a same-day visit. It is worth noting that a scheduled visit is sometimes the better option, because it lets him arrive with the right part rather than diagnosing on day one and returning on day two.

Open seven days, and no. A Saturday, a Sunday, or a holiday is billed the same as a weekday.

It depends on the appliance, the age, the brand, and which part has failed. A refrigerator that has stopped cooling is often a reasonable repair. A fifteen-year-old washer needing bearings is not. You will get a straight answer either way, and there is a longer version here.

Common parts are carried on the van, which is why many repairs are completed on the first visit. Anything rarer is ordered, and you will be told what the part is and what it costs before the order goes in.
